School Safety Specialist
TAASRO is proud to announce the launch of the School Safety Specialist designation for Alabama School Resource Officers (SROs)! The TAASRO School Safety Specialist designation recognizes officers who demonstrate outstanding commitment to school-based policing, school safety, and ongoing professional development. Officers receiving this designation will be distinguished for their dedication to serving Alabama’s youth, communities, and schools.
Similar to NASRO’s Practitioner status, TAASRO believes it is essential to formally acknowledge officers within our state who proactively pursue advanced training and education to enhance school safety and protect students, faculty, and campuses.
applicants must meet the following criteria:
Minimum of 3 years of service as a School Resource Officer (SRO)
Completion of the NASRO Basic SRO Course
Completion of either the NASRO Advanced Course or NASRO Supervisor & Management Course
Attendance at a minimum of two TAASRO Safe Schools Conferences within the past five years
Participation in at least three ALSDE School Safety Task Force training sessions within the past three years
An additional 80 hours of in-service training directly related to school safety
Committee Approval
Upon application review and committee approval, selected officers will be awarded a certificate and letter of commendation from TAASRO. Recipients will also receive special recognition at the next TAASRO Conference.
TAASRO encourages all SROs to strive toward becoming School Safety Specialists, continuing their essential mission to safeguard Alabama’s most valuable resources—our schools and students.
